SANSlide Series 400 Mid-range
Introduction
The Bridgeworks’ Series 400 SANSlide is a data centre appliance for accelerating storage protocols over WAN links. By using unique parallelisation techniques managed by Artificial Intelligence, it frees the user from the distance limitations and performance constraints that are normally associated with WANs. With its “local device” like connectivity, organisations can now realistically implement the Data Replication, Migration, Backup and Disaster Recovery strategies that match their distance, performance and costs requirements.
Through the use of various and expanding sets of feature cards, the Series 400 supports all of the major storage protocols: Fibre Channel, iSCSI, SAS and SCSI, and is ideal for providing connectivity between: Servers, Virtual Tape Libraries, Disk Arrays and Tape Libraries.

Core Compute Platform
At the heart of the Series 400 is the Core Compute Platform (CCP) This provides all the necessary computing power, two management interfaces, two 1Gbe WAN ports and the SANSlide operating system. As standard the CCP can support up to 70ms of WAN latency, which is sufficient to span Europe or coast-to-coast in the USA. However, if this is insufficient then upgrades are available to increase this to 90ms of WAN latency. Each SANSlide 400 can connect to 10 other SANSlide nodes of any Series or type. These can be configured in a point-to-point topology but where there are multiple Series 400/800 connected together, these can be configured as a Mesh Network where each node not only provides an access point, but also acts as a relay between other nodes. With this facility, organisations can build a global network where it is possible to transport data transparently from any point to any point on the network.
Feature Cards
Nothing is worse than buying a product only to find that six months down the line your requirements have changed. Bridgeworks recognises that the world of storage is constantly changing. Our ability to respond to these changes is key to helping our customers both maximise and future proof their investment in our products.
Each CCP comes with four Feature Card slots that can be populated with a wide range of interfaces: iSCSI, Fibre Channel, SCSI, SAS or extra WAN ports. A unique feature of SANSlide is the ability to mix-and-match the protocols within a single CCP. For example, if there is a requirement for both iSCSI and Fibre Channel connectivity then the CCP can be populated with both types of Feature Card in any combination up to a maximum of four. There is no need to match up the same interface at the other end of the link; with SANSlide these can be totally different interfaces all together - SANSlide seamlessly translates between the two protocols without intervention.

Maximising Investment
In the future, as new interface standards become available, Bridgeworks will verify and release a separate feature card to support this in the Series 400; once again prolonging the life of the product and maximising your return on investment in our products.
Should your needs expand (and you need to migrate up) to the Enterprise Series 800, many if not all of your feature cards can be transferred from the Series 400CCP to the Series 800 CCP.
