COMM232

Four-Channel Serial Communication IP
Module
The COMM232 is a standard,
single-wide IP module that contains four separate RS-232 serial ports. Each of
the ports can be controlled independently by software running on the host
system. A single interrupt vector register with an accompanying steering
register informs the host of which serial channel requires service, thus
increasing performance. Each of the four serial ports is an exact equivalent to
the industry standard 16550 UART, and offers full modem support with all
hardware handshaking signals present. The 12 Volt power for the RS232 circuits
can be either from the IP Bus or automatically switched to an external applied
voltage of 12 to 15 Volts. This IP allows for up to 24 serial ports in a single
slot using one of our high-density carrier cards.
Application Features:
-
Provides the ideal solution for applications where multiple RS232 COMM Ports
are required for a minimal price.
-
Full
modem handshaking on all four ports.
-
Single interrupt vector register and port steering register allow user
prioritization of interrupts (by port) in software.
-
Low
power CMOS receivers and drivers and automatic external supply selection will
greatly reduce or eliminate current drawn from the IP Bus 12 Volt supplies.
-
Flexible operation with programmable baud rates, FIFO trigger level and
programmable interface characteristics.
